Her Ministry Focus
Sarah has already been in Roatan, Honduras for three years and feels honored God has allowed her to be a part of the work He’s doing there. Sarah’s main job is as a teacher and mentor at a Christian school on the island, and she has a heart for the middle school students there, especially the middle school girls. In 2017, God led Sarah to connect her passion through Global Strategy.
There’s a proverb that says, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” (16:4). And so often it’s true: we make a plan and chart our course, but the Lord ultimately directs and leads us to new places and down new roads we couldn’t have imagined. This has certainly been Sarah’s story.
Both local and foreign missions are a part of Sarah’s heritage. She is the third generation of her family to serve as a missionary. Her grandparents, Kenneth and Sue Jo Good, served for many years and in many places through the Church of God, and their legacy spread through the family, but Sarah always thought she’d do something different. Although she knew all the “right” verses and did the “right” things, it wasn’t until Sarah was in university that the still small voice of the Holy Spirit began to speak just a bit louder above all the noise and the truth of God’s love moved from her brain to her heart and she came to truly understand God’s call on her life. It was time to let go of her own plans and to commit fully to doing whatever it was to which he called her. Although Sarah didn’t know at the time she’d end up in Roatan, Honduras, from that day on, she knew the seed for full-time missions—whether in Oklahoma or across the ocean—had been planted in her heart.
Sarah graduated from Southern Nazarene University in 2010 with a degree in English. She immediately began working at a nonprofit in Oklahoma City that facilitates and equips local churches to run Bible clubs for inner city children. She worked there for just over two-and-a-half years, teaching at Bible clubs, writing and editing content, and providing support for volunteers and partner churches. During that time, she taught Sunday school at Crossings Community Church and also led a mission trip for the young adults to Roatan, Honduras. It was during that mission trip the Lord began to stir Sarah’s heart towards global missions. After several trips back and forth to Roatan, a long-term stay with her aunt and uncle sharing Christ in a closed African nation, much prayer, and lots of part-time jobs, Sarah knew she had a definite call to return to Roatan.
